Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd (KPOC) today announced that it has started gas production from the Kebabangan (KBB) platform which also marked the start of production phase at the Kebabangan gas field. The production from the KBB field is expected to ramp up to 500 MMSCF per day by April 2015. The field is located offshore Malaysia and is part of KBB Cluster Production Sharing Contract operated by KPOC. The KBB platform is an integrated Production facility designed and built as a hub with gas, condensate and crude oil processing facilities to cater for production from the KBB Cluster fields and future tie-ins from other nearby fields. The platform, measuring approximately 18,000 metric tonnes in weight and 39 metres in height, is one of the largest offshore structures ever built in Malaysia. It is designed with the capacity to process up to 825 million standard cubic feet of natural gas, 80,000 barrels of crude oil and 22,000 barrels of condensate daily. Hydrocarbons from the platform will be transported through a pipeline to the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal located onshore Kimanis, Sabah. KPOC is a joint operating company comprising PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (40%), ConocoPhillips Sabah Gas Ltd (30%) and Shell Energy Asia Limited (30%). KPOC’s CEO, Kannan Annamalai said, “We are extremely pleased and proud to deliver this project on schedule and within budget whilst upholding Quality, Health, Safety and Environment standards. “This success is attributed to KPOC’s highly competent and motivated staff, and the excellent support from and collaboration with PETRONAS, government agencies and KPOC shareholders. The fact that we delivered this project in November 2014 which is also the month of KPOC’s 7th anniversary makes this achievement sweeter,” he added. President of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib commented, “Gas from the KBB field, a stranded gas field discovered in 1994, is finally able to be commercially developed through the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu; providing benefits for all – PSC contractors, PETRONAS, MLNG partners and customers, and both Sabah and Sarawak states.” Mark Wheeler, President of ConocoPhillips Malaysia said, “We are especially pleased with achieving KBB first gas as it marks the third major project startup for ConocoPhillips Malaysia this year. This project will contribute to the company’s plan to deliver annually three to five percent production and margin growth over the coming years.” Iain Lo, Shell Malaysia Chairman added, “KBB is a significant gas resource for Malaysia, the start of production is therefore an important and exciting milestone for KPOC. We are pleased to continue supporting KPOC as it develops the remaining KBB Cluster fields.”

Here it is Labor Day, and your intrepid and humble folly hunter is hard at work. Aren’t you impressed? Ok, neither are we. We did consider taking the holiday weekend off, especially since we are vacationing in (cough) Las Vegas. But then we figured it was such an awesome week for folly hunting that taking it off would amount to dereliction of folly duty.
